Extensive exemption and remission arrangements protect those likely to have difficulty in paying charges (NHS prescription and dental charges, optical and hospital travel costs).
The NHS prescription charge is a flat-rate amount which successive Governments have thought it reasonable to charge for those who can afford to pay for their medicines. Prescription prepayment certificates (PPCs) offer real savings for people who need extensive medication.
These charges apply in England only. In Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales prescriptions are free of charge.
If you will have to pay for four or more prescription items in three months, or more than 15 items in 12 months, you may find it cheaper to buy a PPC.

TRAVELLERS TO SCOTLAND , WALES AND NORTHERN IRELAND
Please dont assume that the Electronic Prescription Service extends to our neighbours in the United Kingdom. Only English Pharmacies are set up to accept electronic prescriptions. Make sure you have enough medication for the duration of your travels as requests cannot be managed whilst outside ENGLAND.
TRAVELLERS OVERSEAS
We get many requests from patients temporarily out of the country requesting medication or advice. Please be advised this is not allowed
In line with GMC and international regulations we are unable to perform any medical consultations/prescriptions/advice for anyone currently outside the UK as we are not licensed to practice medicine overseas.
We advise that you consult medical services locally.
