Appointments

Monday and Friday  mornings before 10am are our busiest times for telephone traffic – if you can avoid these times it would be much appreciated

 8.30 am – 1 pm we hold Daily Triage ( same day ring back)  for health  urgent matters and open every weekday.

Appointments requests protocol for children in school

Top TIps;

Triage is not appropriate for MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES – please call FIRST RESPONSE  0800 952 1181-  open 24 hours if you are in MH  CRISIS, or MyWellbeing College for talking therapies  Telephone: 0300 555 5551  or Website: www.bmywellbeingiapt.nhs.uk

Medication Requests – Triage is not for requesting any medication (even if you have forgotten to order your prescription / or run out accidently  )  If this happens attend the surgery explain to the Reception Team who will try to help you.

Sick Notes Request – Is never urgent or for Triage ( even if it is overdue).   If you have been absent from work for less than 7 days self certify using  https://www.gov.uk/guidance/ask-your-employer-for-statutory-sick-pay  . Thereafter, follow-on sick notes can be requested through PATCHS Econsultation section on the website  HOME PAGE, or via the NHS APP .  Ensure you provide clear instructions regarding your diagnosis , and the the dates you require, an remember that it can be backdated

Since November 2023 we introduced the Call Queueing feature to help patients calling into their usual branch.  We strongly recommend you avoid early morning calls if you can.   All routine matters eg prescriptions, enquiries  are dealt with after 10 am .

Routine Appointments

Our appointment times are 10 minutes. Please be aware this is long enough to deal with one problem properly or two simple problems. Please do not ask for repeat prescriptions at your appointment as there are other ways you can order your repeat medicines. We ask you to try and follow this guidance so that we can run our surgeries to time. One exception to this is TRANSPORT-MEDICAL-PROTOCOL-v2  (click on the link to view the Protocol) then please click to view the Transport medicals patient leaflet   which should be read before phoning and booking the appointment.

Please note we continue to operate “telephone first” approach, hence your request for a new routine appointment will be a telephone call in the first instance.   This does not mean we are not seeing patients face to face, but does allow our health care professionals to assess prior to inviting patients in. Some patients preferred this approach as it is more flexible and saves time.

It is vital we have your preferred contact number on your record as this will be the number that we call you on.   If you have been told a clinician will call you, it is our policy to call your preferred number and we will make x 2 attempts. If the call is not successful then another appointment will need to be arranged.

Please ask our reception staff what is available and if possible avoid contacting the surgery at 8.30am which is our busiest time unless you are in urgent need of a same day appointment.

Types of Appointments Available:

  • On the day – You will be offered a GP  or *Advance Nurse Practitioner call back (Monday mornings are exceptionally busy). The GP may be able to deal with your problem over the phone, if not they will triage you to the most appropriate service, this may be a GP appointment that day, later in the week or an appointment with one of our other practitioners.  This will involve our reception staff asking you for some information when you initially call. All staff employed by the practice are bound by the same level of patient confidentiality as Doctors and we would appreciate your co-operation as we introduce this service.
  • Pre-Bookable – available to book up to 3 weeks in advance

* What is an advanced nurse practitioner (ANP)?

A nurse who has completed a master’s degree in clinical practice is known as an Advanced Nursing Practitioner (ANP). An ANP has diagnostic authority and is trusted to assess, diagnose, manage, and care for patients with complex clinical issues. ANPs complete additional qualifications in addition to their nursing training, allowing them to assess and treat patients while also being accountable for their decisions. They are not physicians and have not completed medical school.
